A vivid and colorful stream of runners will be on the streets of the Athens city centre for 9th year in row, taking part in the 2020 Athens Half Marathon, a major international running event held in Athens every third weekend of March, matching with the Spring Equinox date.

The 2020 Athens Half Marathon, organized by SEGAS (Hellenic Athletics Federation) and the City of Athens, co-organized by the Attica Region, and ERGO Insurance as Grand Sponsor, will take place on Sunday 22 March 2020.

The Athens Half Marathon is the ideal race for all regular and novice runners of any age, who, by running any of the event races, take part in a city big celebration along some of the most significant historic and cultural monuments of Athens, a city that is widely recognized as  one of the most popular sport, cultural and touristic destinations. On the other hand, the 3km Race, the fees in which are used for purposes of various social responsibility projects of the City of Athens, offers the opportunity, even to those that have never run before, to enjoy themselves, either by running or walking on the streets of the city. After all, the joy of participation is what counts the most.

Within the context of the Athens Half Marathon event, the HALF MARATHON EXPO, the great annual Sports and Tourism Exhibition, open its gates on 19-21 March 2020, at HELEXPO MAROUSSI premises. The HALF MARATHON EXPO lasts for three whole days and precedes the race, in order to welcome all thousands registered runners that will visit it in order to collect their bib number and race kit.

Registrations in the Half Marathon Race as well as the 5km & 3km Races are submitted online via the official Athens Half Marathon website (www.athinahalfmarathon.gr).

In addition, the Hellenic National Half Marathon Championships is yearly held in the framework of the Athens Half Marathon event, with the participation of all Greek middle and long distance champions.

The Athens Half Marathon course follows the city’s pulse

Syntagma, Panepistimio, Stadiou, Amalias, Vas. Sofias Alexandras and Patision Avenues are only few of the major streets and roads where the city’s heart beats, as the runners of the Athens Half Marathon event create a unique celebration spirit. The thousands of runners and those who attend the event in order to watch and applaud them, truly enjoy a different city morning.

The Half Marathon Race starts at 09.00am from Syntagma Square, while the 3km Race follows at 09.10am. The event goes on with the Kids Run at 09.35am and an extremely massive 5km Race at 11.45am. All races have different starting points but all finish in front of the Parliament.

After all, the Athens Half Marathon is undeniably the ultimate spring event in Athens, as it always coincides with the spring equinox. The Athens Half Marathon event is indeed a great opportunity to explore the hidden treasures of Athens, in terms of significant monuments, historic buildings  and works of art one can see along the course.

The Greek Parliament, the Monument of the Unknown Soldier, Iliou Melathron, the National Archaeological Society, the Academy and the Athens University, the National Archaeological Museum, the statue of the national hero Kolokotronis, are only few of them.
